Karyn, tell us about your business!

Karyn: I help coaches, therapists, and healing professionals to create marketing content and copy without compromising their values or who they are. The result? It’s easier for their people to say YES to hiring them.

What misconceptions exist in/about your industry?

Karyn: I think the biggest misconception I encounter is that you need crystal clarity about your work and your ideal client before you start marketing or selling it. I call this The Clarity Conundrum

It makes sense on the surface because we want to make the most of our time and energy, but I often see folks stuck here, going back and forth in their minds on what direction their business “should” take, sinking further in the details and farther from any sort of clarity. I meet people in that murky place—where they feel like they’re word vomiting, spinning in circles, or not making much sense—to unearth and strengthen foundational language and copy that reflects all the value they bring to their client work.

What does it mean to be an empathy-driven entrepreneur?

Karyn: It means building my business in a way that’s a win-win with other humans. It means acknowledging the things I support people with—marketing and writing copy—are hard, especially when you’re selling a service close to your heart. And it means approaching the way I sell my services and support my clients from a place of compassion.

Can you share a few empathy-driven businesses you admire?

Karyn:

  • Radical Hearts Print Lab because I love how Loretta combines her art and her values with her business.

  • Daily Bread Yoga because Rachel does a great job at encouraging you to show up as you are. She was local to me the last place I lived, Champaign Illinois, and now offers classes online.

  • Eryka Peskin, Coach and Photographer, because she’s a Fierce Cheerleader. That’s a legit cool job title and she really does cheerlead you in a way that doesn’t feel like she’s just BSing you.

Is there a particular quote that resonates with you lately?

Karyn: I find that questions resonate the most for me. I’ve got this one on a post-it note on my desk: Do I want to test it?

Where can you be found when you’re not working?

Karyn: Reading a mystery or fantasy novel with a cat curled up in my lap, hiking with my partner, Cam, or doing creative writing.

What have you been listening to lately?

Karyn: My top 3 albums right now are: Andre Henry’s “Make It To Tomorrow,” Tegan and Sara’s “Heartthrob,” and The Goo Goo Dolls “Chaos in Bloom.”

What has changed for you since joining Wellstruck?

Karyn: I have a healthier relationship with my business since joining Wellstruck. I offer my services online and work from home and that can be isolating, which can make it hard to keep going. I’d been craving mutually supportive relationships with other business owners, but had been struggling to create them. Social media really isn’t built for that, and many of the online spaces I’m in don’t do anything to actually cultivate a sense of community. I’ve only been in Wellstruck for a few months, but Sarah is fantastic at facilitating the group, and from my first Wellstruck Wednesday I felt like I was part of the community.

How can we support your business?

Karyn: If you know a coach or healing professional who’s overwhelmed with marketing advice, I’d love it if you shared my free resource: The Copywriting Anti-Checklist with them.
